Sewage facilities

Understand sewage installations. Materials and techniques used. These facilities make called Sanitary Installations.

How Sewage Installations Work

Sewage is a facility whose function is to receive water that has already been used in a house or building. Sewer installations consist of numerous and diverse pipes. Which need to collect water that has been used in every piece of sanitary ware in a house or apartment.

Use of siphons.

In general, all sewage apparatus have a siphon, which in its simplest form, consists of an “S” bend on the pipe leaving the apparatus, and intend to always fill with water to avoid bad smell, that is, so that the sewage gases do not pass into the house.

The siphons can be made of metal, and many of the older siphons were lead. For practical reasons and economic viability, metal siphons are no longer use in most cases. But in present metal siphons replace by plastic siphons

These pipes, which individually collect use water by these sanitary ware, join or are convert to a single underground pipeline below the ground. Whose function is to route use water for the municipal sewer line, which is usually in the center from street.

Sewage route is no public network

When a dwelling is not serve by a public sewer, such as a rural area or residences in remote places. The water already use is discard as follows, as explained below.

The sewage from all points is collect in individual pipes, then joining in just one pipe in the same way. (as has been said above.). It were route to the public grid.

However, as there is no public network, and so instead of direct to the street. It should follow towards the other area of the construction land receive some type of treatment for disposal or even partial reuse of some type of water served.

There are types of sustainable treatments or with different ecological approaches. And there are also systems of older and conventional treatments. That tend to replace by the more modern or sustainable ones.

Treatment with septic tank

After being sealed in a single pipe, all sewage is dumped into a box called a septic tank.

When it arrives in this box, the water serve and its debris undergo decanting. That is the liquid separated from the solid part, as if becoming something like sludge remain bottom of the box.

The septic tank the primary treatment unit of domestic sewage, being a simple and economical system, when one does not have the option to discard in the public network.

The water that comes from the sink or tub of the kitchen, before arriving in the septic tank, must first pass through the box of fat, which must always be present.

After the water passes through the stage of the septic tank, then it is already cleaner than in its previous state, then it continues to infiltrate in the soil, being able to be through two ways or systems can be ” Inflating “or” Sinking “

The bottomless pit that allows the “effluents” coming from the septic tank to penetrate into the ground. They must construct of solid brick, concrete blocks or precast materials.

Infiltration Ditch are recommended for land where the groundwater (groundwater) is very close to the surface.

The illustrative scheme on the left side shows the pit with connectors for the distribution boxes and the infiltration trenches in the plant, and on the left side the trench seen in section.

Sewage Calculation and Dimensioning

All components of the sewage system must be underground, and everything must dimension or calculate in relation to the dimensions of its components.

So that they operate according to the needs of each household. On this page, only a general approach has been made to the basic understanding of how sewage works.
